For a while Play At Work was a collection of more than forty quick browser games: number merges, block stackers, snake, solitaire and friends. They worked, mostly. But if we're honest, they were versions of games that already exist everywhere, and none of them were something we'd come back to every day ourselves.
So we retired the whole collection and put everything into one original game. CLOCK OUT is the game we actually wanted to play on a lunch break: ten-minute runs, a power curve that goes from “one stapler” to “screen-filling chaos”, and a reason to come back tomorrow.
What's in CLOCK OUT today (version 1.5)
- 18 weapons with 10 evolutions and 4 Corporate Mergers, 17 passive perks and 7 playable employees.
- 2 floors (the Open Plan office and the Server Room), 13 enemy types and 7 bosses across a full 9 to 5 with dynamic time-of-day lighting.
- Daily Shift with a global leaderboard and 27 Performance Goals.
- A home of your own: 6 homes from a basement to a private island, 173 things to buy, a closet full of clothes and 29 weapon skins.
- Instant pause, auto-pause on tab switch and the Boss Key.
- Runs on desktop and mobile, adapting graphics quality to your device automatically.
How it's made
CLOCK OUT is built with Three.js and TypeScript. Hundreds of animated Workaholics are drawn in a single instanced draw call using animation baked into textures, which is how a browser game can keep a whole office full of zombies at 60 frames per second. Characters, furniture and sound effects are from Kenney's wonderful public-domain asset packs; the music was composed for the game.
We'll keep adding floors, weapons and employees. Got feedback? Tell us.
