Games to Play at Work, Built for Your Break
We named the whole site after this, so we took it seriously.
A good game for a work break has to start instantly, fit in ten minutes, stop the moment you need it to and install nothing on a work computer. CLOCK OUT was designed around exactly that. It is a free action game that runs in a browser tab, and it even comes with a Boss Key.
What makes a game good for a break at work
- No install. Work laptops often block installers. CLOCK OUT runs in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari with nothing to download and no account to create.
- Short sessions. A full run is one workday in game, which takes about ten minutes. That's one coffee break.
- Instant pause. Esc pauses at any moment, and the game pauses on its own when you switch tabs or windows.
- A Boss Key. Press B and the game becomes a dull budget spreadsheet called Q3_Budget_Forecast_FINAL_v7.xlsx, browser tab title included. Press it again to get back to work. On the game.
- Quiet when it needs to be. Music, sound effects and voice each have their own volume slider, and the game plays fine muted.
- Easy on the laptop. The graphics adapt to your device automatically, and a Low setting saves battery on older machines.
- Your progress follows you. Play on your phone at lunch, carry on from your laptop later: Cloud Save moves your career between devices with a private code.
What CLOCK OUT is
Your coworkers opened the "Mandatory Synergy" email and turned into Workaholics. You survive the horde from 9 AM to 5 PM with 18 weaponised office supplies, from the Stapler to Reply All lightning. You only steer and roll; the weapons fire on their own, so it plays well with a trackpad, a mouse, a keyboard or a phone screen. Every shift pays, and the pay moves you from your parents' basement to a private island. Read the Beginner's Guide.
A game for every break
- Coffee break: one run of the 9 to 5.
- Lunch: two runs, then spend your pay on furniture that makes you stronger.
- First thing in the morning: the Daily Shift, the same run for everyone that day, with a leaderboard to settle office arguments.
Questions
Is it free?
Yes, completely. No loot boxes and nothing to buy; every upgrade is earned by playing.
Will it work on my work computer?
It needs a browser with WebGL 2, which every current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari has. On some locked-down machines hardware acceleration is turned off; the game then runs on its lowest settings.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Drag anywhere to move. Your progress carries over to your computer with Cloud Save.
Should I actually play at work?
On your break, sure. Please follow your employer's rules. The Boss Key is a joke, not a strategy.
